Denver Art Museum “Print Jam”

  • Denver Art Museum 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway Denver, CO, 80204 United States (map)

Join us at the Denver Art Museum as part of the Mo’ Print Community for a special day of on-site demonstrations and activities highlighting some of the most common printmaking processes.

There will be multiple printing presses within the Creative Hub and various printmakers giving demonstrations on their process. This is a unique chance to mingle with printmaking artists and see how prints are made!

InterOcean Studios is pleased to be participating in the following activities:

Main Area Demo: Print a postcard with the InterOcean Studio team. Using a tabletop platen press, experience the tradition of letterpress printing - with instant gratification. We will guide you through the process to make this fun take-away print. Then head into the Blue Classroom to make paper and pull another print!

Blue Classroom Activity: Calling all makers! This fun hands-on activity is led by our InterOcean Studio instructors and volunteers, and takes you through the steps to make a sheet of paper, dry it, and pull a print from our tiny tabletop platen presses to take home. We welcome kids and adults alike. No experience necessary - just curiosity!

FEATURE ARTISTS:

Lucy Holtsnider grew up in Littleton, Colorado, riding horses and catching crawdads in the Platte River. At Colorado College, she learned how to make letterpress prints and artist’s books. Later, her practice shifted to creating abstract collages out of handmade paper while completing an MFA at UC Santa Barbara. Though the medium might vary, her work always considers the natural world and sense of place. Lucy is now based in Denver, where she works as a book designer, makes letterpress prints on a Vandercook SP-15 press, and teaches workshops year-round. Visit her website at www.lucyholtsnider.com

Jeff Shepherd is a master pressman and graphic designer at Genghis Kern Design & Letterpress, where he has been inking up their multitude of presses since 2014. As a pressman, he is interested in working collaboratively with designers and artists to bring their visions to life. In his personal work, he juxtaposes folk art sensibility with modern print production methods, creating pieces featuring layered color, pattern, and handicraft. His involvement in the print community extends beyond InterOcean Studio to the Amalgamated Printers’ Association (APA) and the Letterpress Depot.
